The NHRA Midwest Nationals are underway at World Wide Technology Raceway near St. Louis, where standout Pro Stock Motorcycle racer Angie Smith was injured in high-speed crash Saturday.
During a 198 mph pass, the veteran racer from King, North Carolina, fell off her motorcycle. In addition to on-site care, Smith was transported to a nearby hospital by the NHRA safety team. Smith was conscious and alert after the incident, according to the NHRA.
The following update was posted on Smith’s Facebook page by Sadie Glenn, who handles social media for the team.
Two of Smith’s feet were broken and he suffered severe road rash, according to the post. She will meet with a surgeon to discuss skin grafts.
Smith competed on Matt Smith Racing’s black, carbon fiber v-twin for the second straight race and finished fifth in points. It was felt that Smith would have a better chance of winning in Charlotte with the black bike than her usual pink Denso Buell, which Chip Ellis was riding that day.
Immediately after the incident, Matt Smith, Jianna Evaristo, and Joey Gladstone, who recently joined the St. Louis squad, skipped their attempts at qualifying.
As soon as more information becomes available, it will be released. As you keep Angie Smith racing in your thoughts and prayers, please keep her in your prayers for a speedy recovery.
We will be adding more videos to the Cycledrag Youtube channel and the Cycledrag Facebook page in the near future. Keep checking back every day.
